Barcelona is said to have requested Valencia defender Jose Gaya to wait a year so that a free move may be completed.
Since taking over from Ronald Koeman in December, Xavi has overseen a massive transition at Barcelona. He has signed players such as Manchester City's Ferran Torres and Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubemyang, as well as bringing Dani Alves back to the club.
The former Barcelona defender is now considering a move to Gaya to bolster his left-hand defence. Jordi Alba is 32 years old, while Alex Balde, a promising youngster, has yet to make an impact on the first squad. According to AS, Barcelona has requested Gaya to hold off on signing a contract until 2023, when he will be a free agent.
According to the report, the defender's close relationship with Blaugrana director Mateu Alemany has prompted the Spaniard to consider a move to the Nou Camp.
Valencia, on the other hand, does not want to lose its leader. They want to move forward with negotiations for a new contract for Gaya, who has spent his entire career at Mestalla.
Gaya, who is 26 years old, has made 283 appearances for Los Che, scoring eight goals and assisting 34 times. His tenure at the club might play a significant role in any future transfer by Barcelona for the player.
